Me vs. Online Services that Sell Contract Forms

How on earth can I compete with online platforms that offer contracts for a fraction of what I charge?


It’s a great question. And here’s my answer: I don’t compete with them. I’m not selling the same thing.


They sell templates. Sally answers some questions, and a document comes out. Sally has to make sure she understands the questions and does all the work herself. If she gets it wrong, it’s on her.


On the other hand, I am a lawyer. I give actual legal advice. I take time to understand Sally’s situation, look out for anything she might have missed, talk her through her options and make sure that what I provide actually achieves what she needs.


I’m more expensive because what I do is totally different.


Business owners who use online contracts don’t know what they don’t know. Consider this: have you ever seen reviews for the lawyers who drafted those contracts? Can you even find out who the lawyers are?
