How I Help: Contracts and Timing

One frequently overlooked contract provision has to do with timing. This is especially important for projects like web development or construction, where you want to evaluate the progress of the project on a continuing basis.

In reviewing a construction contract for my homeowner client recently, I added multiple touch points so she could continuously review the progress of the construction, and we built in incentives for meeting specific milestones and consequences for not meeting them.

This motivated the contractor to anticipate problems and to communicate with my client more often and in advance of the approaching milestones.

It’s a great way to resolve an issue before it turns into a big dispute.
